OSTALO / OTHER: POHOD OB ŽICI (2. DAN: ZA ŠOLE) / MARCH ALONG THE WIRE (2ND DAY: FOR SCHOOLS)
LJUBLJANA, 6.
LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA - MAY 6, 2016: The 60th annual three day event March Along The Wire that took place in Ljubljana is the largest recreational event in Slovenia. The march takes place on the Path or Remembrance and Comradeship, a 33-kilometer memorial path that runs along the course of a military barbed-wire fence that surrounded the occupied city during the Second World War. The wire was in place from 1942 to 145 when the city was occupied by Italians and later Germans, turning the city into a large concentration camp. The Path of Remembrance and Comradeship is now the longest tree-lined avenue in the city with over 7000 trees, many restpoints and memorials, including 102 memorial pillars along the path. It is also one of the most popular recreational paths in the city. The 3-day event called March Along The Wire starts with the march of mostly kindergarten children on the first day. The second day is reserved mostly for elementary schools and high schools, and on Saturday, around 30,000 people walk the path or run in groups of three.
